Introduction

Whitefish's dining scene ranges from a century-old saloon to newer farm-driven fine dining. We checked eight restaurants below, all confirmed currently operating — a few well-known Whitefish restaurants turned out to have closed in recent years and are excluded here.

Herb & Omni

An AAA Four Diamond restaurant in the historic 101 Central building, giving equal weight to plant-based and meat dishes sourced from Flathead Valley ranchers and farmers, with a rooftop bar.

• Wednesday-Sunday 5-9pm, closed Monday and Tuesday.

• Bookable online or via OpenTable; no explicit walk-in policy stated either way.

Tupelo Grille

A fine-dining Southern, seafood, and steak restaurant open since 1995, one of Whitefish's longest-running upscale restaurants. It changed ownership in 2023 and reopened in early 2024 under the same name and concept after a brief renovation closure.

• Sun-Thu 5-9pm, Fri-Sat 5-9:30pm, plus Sunday brunch 10am-2pm.

• Call ahead or book via OpenTable.

• *Good to know:

• New ownership took over in October 2023 (Dave Pike, from Pat Carloss) with a new executive chef since the February 2024 reopening — well documented by local press.

Boat Club Restaurant

The restaurant at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake, billed as the only true lakefront dining room in Whitefish, serving steak, seafood, and regional Montana cuisine with a seasonal poolside bar in summer.

• Breakfast daily 7-11am; dinner daily 5-10pm. No source confirms whether these hours hold through the winter/shoulder off-season — call ahead if visiting outside peak summer.

• Genuinely the only true lakefront dining room in town.

Beldi

A Mediterranean and Levantine restaurant opened in 2023, sourcing from Flathead Valley farms and Montana-raised wagyu beef.

• A genuine conflict here — the official site states Thursday-Saturday 5-8:30pm, while independent listings show Tuesday-Saturday. Call ahead to confirm current days before planning a visit.

• Daily happy hour 5-6pm, with an all-day Friday happy hour per the official site.

Latitude 48 + Red Room

An upscale bistro serving locally sourced "modern mountain fare," with a hidden basement speakeasy-style cocktail lounge underneath.

• Tuesday-Sunday 5-10pm, closed Monday. Red Room happy hour runs Tue-Fri 5-6pm and 9-10pm.

• Main dining room bookable via OpenTable; the Red Room lounge is reported as first-come, first-served.

Buffalo Cafe

A family-owned diner run by the same family since 1979, now in its second generation, known for huckleberry pancakes and milkshakes.

Loula's Cafe

A New American breakfast and lunch cafe in the historic Masonic Temple building, nationally recognized for its scratch-made huckleberry pies — worth cross-referencing with our cafes guide given its bakery reputation.

• None — waitlist only via the official site; expect a wait given its popularity.

• *Good to know:

• Located in the historic Masonic Temple building downtown.

Great Northern Bar & Grill

A century-old Whitefish saloon institution near downtown's core, which changed ownership in May 2026 to a group of longtime local residents who explicitly pledged to keep it unchanged. Worth noting: this is a distinct business from the unrelated Great Northern Brewing Company, whose original taproom closed in

• No formal system; call ahead if you want to try to hold a table, though it functions as a walk-in-first bar and grill.

Restaurants We Excluded

Three well-known Whitefish restaurants have closed in recent years: Last Chair Kitchen & Bar closed in April 2026, with the space being converted into a new concept; Truby's Wood Fired Pizza, the town's original wood-fired pizzeria, has also closed; and Pescado Blanco, a longtime mountain-Mexican kitchen, closed as well. None of the three should be treated as current dining options.

Practical Tips

• Herb & Omni and Boat Club Restaurant are the two strongest picks for a special-occasion dinner.

• Beldi's exact open days are unclear between its own site and independent listings — call ahead to confirm before planning a visit.

• Loula's Cafe is worth visiting specifically for its pies, alongside its breakfast and lunch menu.

• Whitefish's own airport (FCA) is actually near Kalispell, about 12-15 miles away — see our travel guide's "Getting There" section for the full carrier breakdown.

Each restaurant's operating status, address, and character were checked against its own site and cross-checked against Yelp or TripAdvisor, plus local press including the Whitefish Pilot and Daily Inter Lake. The closures of Last Chair Kitchen & Bar, Truby's Wood Fired Pizza, and Pescado Blanco were each independently confirmed before being excluded. Hours and reservation policies were checked directly against each restaurant's own site where available; where sources genuinely disagreed (Beldi's open days), we said so rather than picking one arbitrarily.
