Introduction

Bend has an unusually high density of craft breweries, formalized into the official Bend Ale Trail — a self-guided passport program run with Visit Bend, spanning more than 30 stops across seven "territories" that extend beyond Bend into Redmond, Sisters, Prineville, and Sunriver. We checked ten breweries genuinely located within Bend itself.

Deschutes Brewery Bend Public House and Tasting Room

Worth understanding as two distinct, currently operating locations of the same company, not duplicates. The Bend Public House, open since 1988, is the original downtown location — a full-service restaurant and pub with 19 taps and a self-service upstairs game room. The Tasting Room & Beer Garden, at the production brewery on the Deschutes River, offers pints, tastings, brewery tours, and food trucks — the tours-and-production experience the pub doesn't offer.

Bend Brewing Company

Open since 1995, a riverside brewpub on Mirror Pond with a dog-friendly lawn, known for award-winning small-batch beer (under 1,000 barrels a year) and pub fare.

Crux Fermentation Project

Founded in 2012 in a converted transmission shop and mill supply building, known for more than 20 taps and a large patio with a fire pit and Cascade Mountain sunset views.

10 Barrel Brewing West Side Bend

Open since 2006, a family-friendly brewpub with 20 taps of seasonal and one-off brews, scratch-made pizza, and fire-pit patio seating. Note there's a separate 10 Barrel "Eastside" Bend location in the Brewers District not covered here.

Worthy Brewing Company

Open since 2013, Bend's first east-side brewery, known for hop-forward beers, an onsite hop farm and greenhouse in partnership with Oregon State University, wood-fired pizza — and a genuinely unusual feature, a rooftop observatory nicknamed the "Hopservatory."

GoodLife Brewing Company

A three-time Great American Beer Festival medalist known for balanced, approachable ales, with a community greenspace built around a food truck and fire pit rather than a sit-down restaurant.

Monkless Belgian Ales Brasserie

Focused specifically on Belgian-style ales rather than general craft beer, in a riverfront European-inspired restaurant setting. It also runs a second Bend tasting room, The Abbey, not covered here.

Bridge 99 Brewery

Open since 2013, a small-batch nano-brewery using local Tumalo hops and sustainable practices, with house-made pizza on the patio.

Terranaut Beer

Worth knowing this is a genuinely new brewery, opened in October 2024, founded by a former 10 Barrel brewer — and already a USA Today "Best New Breweries" honoree with a Great American Beer Festival silver medal.

Practical Tips

• If you want the full Deschutes experience, the Public House and the Tasting Room offer genuinely different things — food-forward pub versus tours-and-production.

• Worthy Brewing's Hopservatory is a distinctive enough feature to plan a visit around specifically.

• The Bend Ale Trail passport is worth picking up at the Visit Bend visitor center if you're planning to hit several stops, though remember it extends beyond Bend itself.
