Door County's wine scene is more varied than its cherry-orchard reputation suggests — alongside genuine fruit and cold-climate-grape producers, a couple of wineries here use fruit grown somewhere else entirely. We checked nine wineries within the county; a tenth candidate turned out to be outside it.

Door Peninsula Winery

Founded in 1974 and commonly described as the oldest and largest winery in Wisconsin, in Sturgeon Bay, with more than 50 fruit, fruit-grape blend, and grape wines across a 70-plus-item tasting menu.

Parallel 44 Vineyard & Winery

A cold-hardy Northern grape specialist, not a fruit-wine house, founded in

2005. Worth knowing: as of April 2026, the company consolidated its operations, closing a separate Kewaunee County tasting room and moving everything to its Sturgeon Bay site under the single Parallel 44 name — a recent change, so older reviews or references to a Kewaunee location reflect the prior setup.

Harbor Ridge Winery

An Egg Harbor winery, established 2010, focused on dry grape wines — Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir — alongside semi-sweet blends and a cherry-forward "Cherry Crush."

Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery

A newer Egg Harbor winery, established 2020, with a dual portfolio: estate-grown cold-hardy Wisconsin grapes (Marquette, Frontenac, Itasca) alongside traditional Washington-state vinifera wines.

Lautenbach's Market, Winery & Cider Co

Part of a 100-acre orchard in Fish Creek, Lautenbach's makes fruit wines and ciders drawing on its own cherry-orchard heritage — the closest match on this list to the classic Door County cherry-wine profile.

Stone's Throw Winery

In Baileys Harbor, Stone's Throw is explicitly not a fruit-wine producer — it uses 100% California-grown grapes from Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino, billed as the county's only ultra-premium all-grape winery, with an on-site wine bar and restaurant.

Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery

The county's largest and most-visited winery, near Jacksonport in the Sturgeon Bay area, drawing more than 60,000 visitors a year, pouring both grape and fruit wines — its Door County Cherry wine and grape blend "Untouchable Red" are notable — alongside beer, bourbon, and cocktails.

Lake Fire Winery

A Baileys Harbor winery billed as the county's only waterfront winery, fruit-forward and especially cherry-focused, alongside dry and sweet reds, whites, and sparkling wines, open year-round.

Helioterra Wines Door County

Worth a framing correction: this is not a local grower. Helioterra is a Portland, Oregon-based winery, founded 2009, using Pacific Northwest grapes — its Fish Creek location is a seasonal tasting room only, with no estate vineyard in Door County itself.

A Winery We Excluded

Von Stiehl Winery, Distillery & Cidery — despite appearing in Door County wine-trail marketing — is physically located in Algoma, which sits in Kewaunee County, not Door County. It's a real, well-regarded business and a member of the same regional wine-trail association, but it's outside the geographic area this guide covers.

Practical Tips

• If a genuine local cherry or fruit wine matters to you, Lautenbach's, Simon Creek, and Lake Fire are your strongest picks — not every winery on this list makes them.

• Stone's Throw and Helioterra are worth visiting for very different reasons — premium California and Pacific Northwest wines, not a Door County agricultural product.

• Double-check current hours before visiting Anchored Roots or Helioterra specifically, since both run reduced seasonal schedules that shift year to year.
