Introduction
Saugatuck and Douglas together offer an unusually dense concentration of hotels and bed-and-breakfasts for such small towns. Two We Excluded
A garbled listing referencing "White Pine Inn Suites" turned out to resolve to a real hotel, White Pines Inn & Suites, located in Holland, roughly 12-15 miles away — a different town entirely, not part of the Saugatuck/Douglas area, so it's excluded here. Similarly, Kingsley House Bed & Breakfast is a genuine, well-regarded property, but it's located in Fennville, about 8 miles from Saugatuck — outside the twin-town area this guide covers.
Practical Tips
If a genuinely historic building matters to you, Park House Inn (1857), Beechwood Manor (Warner P. Sutton House, with State/National Historic Register listings), and BaySide Inn (1927) all have real documented history.
The Kirby Hotel, AmericInn, Pines Motor Lodge, and Forest Inn are all in Douglas rather than Saugatuck proper — a short walk or drive across the river, not literally in town.
Pines Motor Lodge is seasonal (closed Nov 1 – Mar 31); book well ahead for summer weekends.
Beechwood Manor requires 14+ days cancellation notice; check policies carefully for others.
