The Southerner

The Whites family operated it as a hotel-restaurant from 1961, and it became restaurant-only "The Butler" in 1972 — that's the more accurate history than the "50 years" figure sometimes repeated, since as of 2026 that's over 50 years under the current name alone. The BARge

Despite the name, this is a fixed waterfront building, not a literal boat — a bar and restaurant with rooftop seating, adjacent to and associated with the Ship N Shore Motel marina hotel. Known for classic American bar fare, live music, and a dog-friendly deck.

Practical Tips

• The Butler remains the best choice if multi-decade local history matters to you — its 1972 founding is better verified than popular "50 years" claims.
