Best Cafes in Bend
A rebranded roastery, a coffee shop that just opened as an LGBTQ+ safe space in a downtown storefront left vacant months earlier, and a brunch spot that's really more restaurant than cafe.

Introduction
Bend's cafe scene ranges from long-established roasters to genuinely new openings. We checked seven below — all are operating with verified hours, and a couple of recent-history details worth knowing.
Watershed Coffee Roasters
Formerly known as Looney Bean Bend, this downtown cafe rebranded in 2025 after installing an in-house roaster, under the same owners and staff. It's known for on-site roasted coffee and a riverside outdoor garden along the Deschutes, and donates 1% of coffee-bag sales to watershed conservation nonprofits.
*Hours:
- Daily 7:00 AM–4:00 PM.
*Service Model:
- Walk-up window only — order at the front window, then seat indoors or on the back lawn overlooking the Deschutes River. No drive-thru.
Thump Coffee
- Downtown
Thump's original, flagship location, known for traditional espresso drinks and strong ties to Bend's creative and arts scene, including hosting makers markets and rotating local art.
*Hours:
- Mon–Fri 6:00 AM–5:30 PM; Sat 6:30 AM–5:30 PM; Sun 6:30 AM–4:00 PM.
*Service Model:
- Counter-service, dine-in (indoor + outdoor) and takeout.
Lone Pine Coffee Roasters
A small, family-run specialty roastery focused on clean, light-to-medium roasts, known for its Friday and Saturday Apéro hours and community-building events. Worth knowing: there's no single "downtown" Lone Pine anymore — it now operates two locations.
*Hours:
- Boomtown location (910 NW Harriman St): 7:00 AM–5:00 PM daily, plus "apéro hours" 5:00–8:00 PM Fri–Sat. East End location (1462 NE Cushing Dr): 6:00 AM–5:00 PM daily.
*Good to Know:
- The original downtown (Tin Pan Alley) location closed years ago — if a guide calls this "downtown," that's outdated.
Fox & Fern Coffee
A cozy, community-rooted coffee shop with swinging chairs, curated older music, and coffee sourced from small-farm Oregon roasters that pay living wages.
*Hours:
- Daily 6:30 AM–3:30 PM.
*Service Model:
- Dine-in seating (indoor lounge and bar-stool seating) plus online ordering via Square.
WildRoots Coffeehouse
Worth knowing this is WildRoots' newer, second Bend location, opened in November 2025 at Shevlin Crossing — a neighborhood coffeehouse serving Stumptown coffee and pastries from The Sparrow Bakery.
*Hours:
- Mon–Fri 6:00 AM–4:00 PM; Sat–Sun 7:00 AM–4:00 PM.
*Good to Know:
- The original WildRoots location remains at 63130 NE Lancaster St, separate from this Shevlin Crossing location.
The Victorian Café
Worth a category note: this is really a full breakfast-and-brunch restaurant with a full bar, not a casual coffee-shop-style cafe. It's been recognized for "Best Breakfast in Bend" more than 15 times, known for elevated brunch dishes and award-winning cocktails.
*Hours:
- Daily 7:00 AM–2:00 PM.
*Good to Know:
- Significant waits are the norm — 30–45 minutes on weekdays, longer on weekends. Complimentary drinks offered at the outdoor bar while waiting.
almadorada
Worth knowing this is a genuinely new business, opened in June 2025 in a downtown storefront previously occupied by Turtle Island Coffee (closed earlier that year). It's a QTBIPOC-owned coffee shop positioned as an LGBTQ+ and minority safe space, serving coffee from Smith Rock Coffee Roasters alongside a menu inspired by Mexican and Indigenous cultures.
*Hours:
- Mon 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; Tue closed; Wed–Fri 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; Sat 8:00 AM–2:00 PM; Sun 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.
*Good to Know:
- Hosts recurring "Queer Folk Night" events. Signature Café de Olla (Mexican spiced coffee).
Practical Tips
Thump Coffee and Watershed are the two most classically "coffee shop" experiences on this list.
If you want a full sit-down brunch rather than a quick coffee stop, The Victorian Café is really the better fit — but budget extra time for the wait.
Lone Pine Coffee Roasters no longer has a downtown location — specify Boomtown or East End when planning a visit.
almadorada is new enough that its long-term hours and stability aren't yet well established.
Sources and Verification Notes
Each cafe's operating hours, service model, and character were verified against official sites and cross-checked against Yelp, TripAdvisor, or Instagram. Watershed's rebrand and almadorada's 2025 opening were both independently verified against local press coverage (Daily Coffee News, Bend Source). almadorada's current operation was confirmed via Instagram posts dated as recently as July 31, 2026.
