Mackinac Island Bike Shop

A large Trek rental fleet covering single

Mackinac Cycle

Billed as the island's largest bike rental shop, Mackinac Cycle refreshes its Trek fleet each season and also runs its own separate Mobility Center for scooters, wheelchairs, and strollers under the same roof at Arnold Dock.

• No deposit and no reservations — walk-in only; every rental includes a free basket, helmet, water, trail map, and lock.

Mackinac Wheels

Multi-geared rental bikes, child carts, and jog strollers, alongside a full-service bike repair and accessories shop — positioned a short walk from the ferry dock.

• *Hours/pricing:

• Could not be independently confirmed — the official site and review sites all blocked automated verification, and the one specific figure we found ($7/hr) looked stale or mis-sourced compared to every other island shop's $13-19/hr range. • Operates as a "sister" shop to Mackinac Bike Barn under the same ownership.

Mackinac Island Mobility & Bicycle Rental

Primarily known as the island's Amigo mobility scooter rental specialist (standard and heavy-duty units), with bicycles, tandems, and pet carriers as a secondary offering.

• Daily 8am–6pm.

• *Pricing:

• Comfort bikes $19/hr ($72 half-day, $102 full-day); tandem $27/hr ($130 full-day); special-needs mobility cart $24/hr (2-hour minimum).

• *Good to know:

• The go-to option specifically for mobility carts/scooters if you need one — a niche the other shops don't cover as directly.

Island House Bike Rental

Hosted directly on Island House Hotel property across from the marina, this rental is open to the general public, not just hotel guests, offering single-speed and 7-speed cruisers alongside gravel bikes and kids' bikes with front suspension.

• Single-speed cruiser $13/hr ($65/day); 7-speed cruiser $17/hr ($90/day); tandem $23/hr ($105/day).

• First-come, first-served — no reservations, open to anyone, not just hotel guests.

No E-Bikes, Anywhere on the Island

This is worth knowing before you go looking: e-bikes are banned island-wide by City of Mackinac Island ordinance, not just individual shop policy. The only exception is a labeled Class 1, pedal-assist-only e-bike under 750W and 20 mph for riders with a qualifying mobility disability. Non-compliant e-bikes can be impounded, with escalating fines. None of the five shops above rent e-bikes, and you won't find them anywhere else on the island either.

Practical Tips

• All five shops are clustered downtown or a short walk from it — easy to compare in person if you don't have a preference going in.

• If you need mobility equipment specifically, Mackinac Island Mobility & Bicycle Rental and the Mobility Centers at Mackinac Island Bike Shop and Mackinac Cycle are your best bets.

• Don't plan around renting or bringing an e-bike — it's a city ordinance, not a shop-by-shop policy, and applies island-wide.

• Mackinac Island Bike Shop, Mackinac Cycle, Mackinac Island Mobility & Bicycle Rental, and Island House Bike Rental all had current hours and pricing confirmed directly on their own sites; Mackinac Wheels did not — call ahead if that's the shop you're planning around.

Each shop's operating status, offerings, and address were checked against its own official site and cross-checked against Yelp or TripAdvisor. The island-wide e-bike ban was checked directly against the City of Mackinac Island's own official page on the ordinance, and corroborated by 2026 local news coverage of enforcement. Mackinac Wheels' official site and review-site pages all blocked direct verification; its hours and pricing are unconfirmed and shouldn't be treated as current without a phone check.
