Introduction

Napa's dining scene, all within the city itself rather than the broader valley, ranges from Michelin-starred tasting menus to a longtime Italian institution. We checked eight restaurants below, all confirmed currently operating — several well-known spots turned out to have closed and are excluded here.

La Toque

French-inspired fine dining inside the Westin Verasa Napa, holding a Michelin star for years running, with an extensive wine program.

• *Hours:

• Wed-Sun, 5:30-9pm (Wed/Thu/Sun) and 5:30-9:30pm (Fri/Sat); closed Monday and Tuesday.

• *Reservations:

• Required given the tasting-menu format; booked via a deposit-based system, with advance booking recommended for window seating.

• *Good to know:

• Prix-fixe menus run $110 (4-course) to $130 (5-course), with a $220 Chef's Table tasting; private dining seats up to 20; valet parking available.

Kenzo

Michelin-starred Japanese kaiseki dining with ingredients flown in from Japan. Worth a history note: it occupies the building that formerly housed the long-running Pearl Restaurant, which closed around 2015

• *Hours:

• Closed Monday and Tuesday. Wed-Thu 6-8:30pm; Fri-Sun 5:30-8:30pm.

• *Reservations:

• Required and tightly booked — the reservation window opens exactly 30 days ahead. A $200/guest cancellation fee applies inside 24 hours (parties of 1-4) or 72 hours (parties of 5-6).

• *Good to know:

• Business-casual dress requested (no T-shirts, shorts, or sandals); six-course kaiseki menu; corkage $75/bottle, max 2 bottles; best suited to guests 12 and up.

Morimoto Napa

Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's flagship restaurant, with riverfront seating and a full sushi bar. Worth distinguishing from the separate Morimoto Asia Napa, a different concept by the same restaurant group at a different address.

• *Hours:

• Mon-Thu noon-3pm & 5-9pm; Fri noon-3pm & 5-10pm; Sat noon-10pm (no midday break); Sun noon-9pm (no midday break) — sourced from two independent listings that agree with each other, though the official site doesn't display hours directly, so treat this as reasonably but not officially confirmed.

• *Reservations:

• Bookable via OpenTable or phone; omakase/tasting experiences bookable through the website.

• *Good to know:

• Full sushi bar plus indoor/outdoor riverfront seating. Don't confuse with Morimoto Asia Napa, which keeps different hours (closed Mondays) and a different menu.

Oenotri

A long-running Southern Italian institution on Napa's First Street dining strip, known for house-made salumi and a wood-fired pizza oven.

• *Hours:

• Mon-Thu 11:30am-2:30pm & 5-9pm; Fri-Sat 11:30am-2:30pm & 5-9:30pm; Sun 11:30am-8:30pm continuous.

• *Reservations:

• Accepted via the restaurant's own booking system and OpenTable; recommended especially on weekends given the daily-changing menu.

• *Good to know:

• Moderate pricing, roughly $20-30 per dish; produce sourced from their own farm.

Angèle Restaurant & Bar

A French bistro inside the historic 1890s Hatt Building directly on the Napa River, operating since 2002 with one of downtown Napa's few true waterfront dining patios.

• *Hours:

• Daily — lunch 11:30am-2:30pm, dinner 5-9pm.

• *Reservations:

• Bookable online or by phone; groups of 5+ require a $35/person deposit, forfeited inside 72 hours of cancellation.

• *Good to know:

• 155 total seats — 80 in the dining room, 75 on the riverfront terrace. Corkage is $45/bottle for the first two bottles, $65 each after, with a 3-bottle table max (one fee waived per bottle purchased).

ZuZu

A Spanish tapas and paella restaurant that's been a downtown Napa fixture for more than a decade.

• *Hours:

• A genuine conflict — the official site states noon-10pm daily, while an independent listing shows longer hours extending to 11pm or 11:30pm on some days. The official site's figure is likely more current, but confirm directly if a late dinner matters.

• *Reservations:

• Primarily walk-in; only a small number of tables (parties of 6 or fewer) are held for reservations via Tock. Larger parties of 10+ require a set-menu arrangement by email. Patio seating is by request only, not guaranteed even with a reservation.

• *Good to know:

• Sister restaurant La Taberna nearby can be used as a wait area if there's a line.

Cole's Chop House

A classic American steakhouse in a historic former foundry building, with an extensive Napa Valley wine list.

• *Hours:

• Mon-Thu 5-9pm; Fri 5-9:30pm; Sat 4:30-9:30pm; Sun 5-9pm. Dinner only, no lunch service.

• *Reservations:

• Recommended, especially Friday-Saturday and holiday evenings, which are often fully booked.

• *Good to know:

• Built around 21-day dry-aged USDA prime steaks, Midwestern corn-fed Black Angus, and New Zealand lamb, with an extensive wine and whiskey list.

Grace's Table

A Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized neighborhood bistro serving an eclectic, globally inspired menu from breakfast through dinner daily.

• *Hours:

• Daily — brunch 9am-3pm, dinner 5-9pm.

• *Reservations:

• Recommended for dinner; brunch is first-come, first-served with no reservations.

• *Good to know:

• Menu draws on France, Italy, and the Americas; private events available for groups of 6 or more.

Restaurants We Excluded

Several well-known Napa restaurants have closed in recent years. Miminashi closed in late 2020, and Ca' Momi Osteria closed in the following years, with its space taken over by a different restaurant. One downtown address, 813 Main Street, has cycled through at least three different concepts since 2015, all now closed — treat any restaurant name tied to that address as outdated. A notable Oxbow Public Market vendor also closed in early 2025 following a labor-law investigation.

Practical Tips

• La Toque and Kenzo are the two strongest picks for a Michelin-starred splurge — both require reservations booked well in advance.

• Angèle Restaurant & Bar is worth prioritizing specifically for its genuine riverfront patio, one of few in downtown Napa.

• Remember that famous Napa Valley restaurants like The French Laundry are actually in Yountville, not Napa city — don't expect to find them downtown.

• ZuZu's hours show a genuine conflict between its own site and independent listings — confirm directly if a late dinner matters.

• SFO is genuinely 57-58 miles from Napa, not the often-cited 47-50 — see our travel guide's "Nearest Airport" section for the full breakdown.

Sources and Verification Notes

Each restaurant's operating status, address, and character were checked against its own site and cross-checked against Yelp or OpenTable. Miminashi's and Ca' Momi's closures, along with the churn at the 813 Main Street address, were each independently confirmed before being excluded. Hours were checked directly against each restaurant's own site where available; where sources genuinely disagreed (ZuZu, Morimoto Napa's hours not published on its own site), we said so rather than picking one figure arbitrarily.
