Introduction

Napa's cafe scene runs from a century-old bakery brand to a coffee-and-beer hangout founded by former television colleagues. We checked six below, all confirmed currently operating.

The Model Bakery

A bakery dating to 1908, with a location inside Oxbow Public Market known for morning buns and daily baguettes.

• *Good to know:

• Warm baguettes come out of the ovens after 2pm daily. Shares Oxbow's general parking (see below).

Ritual Coffee Roasters

A San Francisco-based specialty roaster's Napa outpost inside Oxbow Public Market, operating since 2008 with direct-trade sourcing from Latin America.

• Walk-in coffee bar; order-ahead available via Square, no seated reservations.

• *Good to know:

• Sits at the north end of Oxbow's market hall.

Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company

Roasting its own coffee locally since 1985, recognized as a Napa County legacy business and predating most of the city's current cafe scene. Located at 710 Main St — worth noting a similarly-named St. Helena location has closed, so don't confuse the two.

• Its blends are used by several high-end Wine Country restaurants.

Ohm Coffee Roasters

A rock-and-roll-themed coffee shop roasting its own beans at a separate production facility, with coffee blends named after guitar amplifiers. This entry refers to the 2nd Street "SoFi" cafe location specifically.

• Mon-Fri 7am-5pm; Sat-Sun 7:30am-5pm — the official site doesn't post hours directly, so this is sourced from independent listings rather than confirmed on the operator's own page.

• Ohm also has other locations and a food-truck presence elsewhere in the region — this entry is specifically the 2nd Street cafe.

Moulin

An artisan bakery and coffee shop known for naturally leavened sourdough, which started as a stall at the Napa Farmers Market before opening this downtown storefront.

• Thu-Mon 7:30am-2:30pm; closed Tuesday and Wednesday — confirmed directly on the official site.

• *Reservations:

• Walk-in bakery/coffee counter.

• *Good to know:

• Whole grains milled in-house on a stone mill; coffee sourced from Camellia Coffee Roasters in Sacramento. Tucked in an alley off 1st Street — easy to miss.

Barnhouse Napa Brews

An English-pub-styled coffee-and-beer hangout, serving locally roasted coffee by day and shifting to beer, wine, and cocktails by evening, with darts and trivia nights.

• Genuinely conflicting between sources — one set shows Mon-Thu 7am-9pm/Fri 7am-midnight/Sat 7am-9pm/Sun 8am-6pm, while the business's own site shows a different, generally shorter schedule. Call (707) 690-6272 to confirm before visiting.

• Walk-in venue; a "reservations" flag on one listing appears to be a generic platform feature rather than an actual booking system.

• *Good to know:

• Dual concept — espresso by day, beer/wine/cocktails by evening; hosts trivia Tuesdays and karaoke Friday-Saturday.

A Cafe We Excluded

Napa General Store, a longtime riverfront cafe and wine bar in the historic Napa Mill district, closed in 2024 after 22 years. It's excluded here since it no longer operates.

Practical Tips

• The Model Bakery and Ritual Coffee Roasters are both inside Oxbow Public Market, making them easy to pair with a single visit. The market itself runs daily 7:30am-9pm, with three surrounding parking lots that are largely free but can fill during peak hours.

• Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company is worth a stop specifically for its decades-long local roasting history.

• Moulin is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays — plan around it if it's a must-visit.

• Barnhouse Napa Brews has genuinely unclear hours between sources — call ahead rather than assuming a fixed schedule.

Each cafe's operating status, address, and character were checked against its own site and cross-checked against Yelp or local press. Napa General Store's 2024 closure was independently confirmed before being excluded. Barnhouse Napa Brews' hours showed a genuine, unresolved conflict between current sources and are flagged rather than presented as settled fact.
