Introduction

Moab's dining scene runs from a decades-old roadside diner to genuine fine dining in a historic mansion. We checked eight restaurants below, all confirmed currently operating — a well-known restaurant that went through a name change turned out to have closed for good, and is excluded here for that reason.

Moab Brewery

Moab's only microbrewery, open since 1996, serving scratch-cooked American food alongside house beers and, notably, its own distilled spirits — a detail worth knowing given Utah's separate brewery and distillery licensing.

• Sun-Thu 11am-9pm, Fri-Sat 11am-10pm.

• *Reservations:

• No reservation system; large walk-in brewpub.

• *Good to know:

• As a licensed brewery, it can serve alcohol without requiring a food order — unlike standard restaurants under Utah law, which must pair alcohol with food.

Desert Bistro

One of Moab's few genuine fine-dining rooms, serving internationally inspired cuisine with a southwestern flair.

• Nightly from 5pm when open. It closes seasonally each winter, generally December through early March — exact current-season dates aren't published anywhere we could find, so call ahead (435-259-0756) before planning a winter visit.

• Managed via Tock for parties of 1-6; larger parties call directly.

• Fine dining, roughly $25-40/entrée — a small, upscale space worth booking ahead even in season.

Sunset Grill

A fine-dining steakhouse operating since 1993, set in a 1950s hilltop mansion built by Charlie Steen, the "Uranium King" whose 1952 uranium discovery transformed Moab's economy — a genuine piece of local history, not just a marketing backdrop.

• Mon-Sat 5pm-close, closed Sunday.

• Walk-ins welcome for any size party; reservations accepted only for groups of 6 or more, by phone.

• *Good to know:

• Offers a free shuttle pickup from any local motel, RV park, or B&B — genuinely useful if you don't have a car.

Antica Forma

Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizza and Italian food on Main Street.

• *Hours:

• Sun-Thu 11am-10pm, Fri-Sat 11am-10:30pm.

• *Reservations:

• Accepted by phone, also useful for checking current wait times.

• *Good to know:

• Wood-fired with imported Italian ingredients and in-house mozzarella; gluten-free options available.

98 Center

An Asian-influenced local-fusion spot known for house-made pho and banh mi, with an explicit commitment to sourcing from producers within 100 miles of Moab.

• Wed-Sun 11:30am-9pm when open. *Important:

• this restaurant closes for two seasonal breaks each year — a summer break (its own site states reopening August 22 for fall season, though one secondary source suggested different dates; confirm directly before a late-summer visit) and a winter break roughly late December through mid-February.

• No reservations; call ahead 15-20 minutes for parties of 6+ to join a waitlist.

• *Good to know:

• 18% auto-gratuity on takeout orders (20% for large catering).

Trailhead Public House & Eatery

A gastropub in a stucco building dating to 1886, one of Moab's oldest structures, with rooftop seating and a scratch-made Southwestern pub menu.

• Mon-Sat 11:30am-9pm, Sun 4-9pm (sourced from secondary listings; the official site displays its hours only as an image graphic, not independently confirmed in text).

• None taken — the restaurant's own site states this explicitly. No phone orders either; takeout is online/QR-code only.

• Roughly 90% scratch-made menu, kombucha on tap.

Milt's Stop & Eat

A historic roadside diner opened in 1954, marketed as Moab's longest continuously operating restaurant, known for buffalo burgers and malts.

• Daily from 11am; closing time varies seasonally between roughly 7pm and 9pm, shorter in winter.

• *Reservations:

• None — walk-up/drive-in counter service, outdoor picnic-table seating.

• *Good to know:

• Budget-friendly (roughly $10-15/person); expect 15-30 minute waits on peak spring/fall weekends.

Sabaku Sushi

A genuine sushi bar in a landlocked high-desert adventure town — a distinctive, unexpected option worth calling out on a list otherwise dominated by Southwestern and American fare.

• Tue-Sat 5-9pm, closed Sunday and Monday.

• *Reservations:

• A hybrid policy — the restaurant reserves only half its tables, leaving the rest for walk-ins, so reservations help but aren't required.

• *Good to know:

• Very small, roughly a dozen tables plus the sushi bar — fills fast in peak season.

A Restaurant We Excluded

A well-known Moab restaurant previously operating as Buck's Grill House was rebranded as Atomic Grill & Lounge under the same ownership, and the owner has since publicly announced it will not reopen. Both names are excluded here since the business is confirmed permanently closed.

Practical Tips

• Sunset Grill and Desert Bistro are the two strongest splurge-dinner picks; check Desert Bistro's winter closure dates if traveling in the off-season.

• 98 Center closes for two seasonal breaks a year (summer and winter) — confirm current status directly before planning around it, especially in late summer.

• Utah's alcohol laws changed as of January 1, 2026: a 100% ID-check requirement now applies to all alcohol sales statewide, more current than older "Zion Curtain" references.

• Milt's Stop & Eat is worth the stop specifically for its genuine roadside-diner history, not just the food.
