Introduction

Jackson's dining scene skews notably upscale for a town its size, a reflection of its wealthy tourist base, balanced by a handful of genuinely casual local institutions. We checked eight restaurants below, all confirmed currently operating — one well-known tram-top restaurant we looked into turned out to have closed to the public years ago, and is excluded here for that reason.

Snake River Grill

A New American fine-dining fixture on the Town Square since 1993 — over three decades in the same log-cabin building, making it one of Jackson's longest-running restaurants. It's been cited by multiple national outlets among the best restaurants in the state.

• *Hours:

• A genuine conflict here — the official site states "open nightly" (implying all 7 days) from 5pm, while independent listings consistently show Monday-Saturday 5:30-9pm, closed Sunday. Confirm Sunday availability directly before planning around it.

• *Reservations:

• Book via OpenTable, which opens 60 days in advance at noon Mountain Time, or by phone after 3pm. Groups over 10 aren't accommodated. Given its popularity and limited size, treat this as essential, not optional.

Wild Sage

The restaurant at the rebuilt Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa, which burned down in a 2019 fire and reopened in July 2024 after a full rebuild. French-inspired New American cooking under a French-trained chef.

Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse

Downstairs from the landmark Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, known for its saddle bar stools and history of country-music legends performing upstairs. Worth knowing: the steakhouse closed in 2020, briefly operated under a different name and concept, and later reverted to its steakhouse identity — so treat "operating since 1995" style claims about it with some caution.

• Traveler-reported dress code is "casual-elegant" (collared shirt fine, hiking boots discouraged) — not an official policy, just a common characterization. Genuinely upscale pricing.

Gun Barrel Steak & Game House

A locally owned wild-game steakhouse open since 1993, genuinely independent rather than a chain, known for meats cooked over an open mesquite and river-rock grill — bison prime rib, elk tenderloin, and mixed game plates.

• Open nightly 5-9pm, seven days a week, consistent across sources.

• *Reservations:

• Described as required by more than one source, given the restaurant's converted-museum-space size; some sources suggest occasional last-minute availability, but plan to book ahead.

• *Good to know:

• Housed in a former wildlife museum with taxidermy and a river-rock fireplace — genuinely distinctive atmosphere. Price tier is inconsistently reported across sources (moderate to expensive) — expect steakhouse-level pricing rather than a specific figure.

Cafe Genevieve

Set in a historic log cabin built starting in 1906 by the Van Vleck brothers and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its namesake, Genevieve Van Vleck, served on Jackson's 1920 all-woman town council — reported as the first all-female municipal government in the US. The restaurant survived a 2019 kitchen fire and has since reopened.

• Important update — this is now a brunch-and-lunch-only restaurant, daily roughly 8am-2:30/3pm (sources differ slightly on the exact closing minute). Dinner service, which some older listings still describe, is no longer offered as of this writing.

Persephone Bakery

Worth cross-referencing with our cafes guide: this French-leaning bakery has drawn national press attention (Food & Wine, The New York Times) for its old-world fermentation breads and pastries, and is a genuine local favorite as much as a destination bakery. It currently operates two locations — the original on the Town Square and a second in Westbank/Wilson; a third address sometimes still associated with Persephone is actually Picnic, a separate sister cafe (see our cafes guide).

• Town Square location Mon-Sat 7am-6pm, Sun 7am-5pm (kitchen closes at 3pm); Westbank/Wilson location daily 7am-3pm.

Bin22

A distinctive Spanish and Italian tapas bar combined with a wine shop and specialty grocer — order wine off the shop shelf with no corkage fee. Consistently ranks among the highest-rated restaurants in Jackson on independent review sites.

• Daily 10am-10pm, consistently reported across independent sources — worth noting its own official site doesn't publish hours directly.

• *Reservations:

• No reservations, first-come-first-served; one of Jackson's more popular dinner spots, so arrive early to avoid a wait.

• *Good to know:

• Tapas plates run roughly $10 (single item) to $35 (five items) — described by reviewers as affordable fine dining.

Pica's Mexican Taqueria

A casual taqueria that's been repeatedly voted a local "best Mexican restaurant." (A claim that it appeared on a national food-television show is unconfirmed and conflicts across sources — we're not repeating it as fact.)

• Daily 11am-9pm, consistent across all sources checked.

• *Reservations:

• Counter-service, order-and-pay — no table reservations. Expect long ordering lines at peak lunch and dinner hours.

• *Good to know:

• Fast-casual format — you seat yourself and bus your own table.

A Restaurant We Excluded

Couloir, the restaurant at the top of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort tram, closed as a standalone public restaurant around 2016 according to local news coverage; the name is now sometimes used for private events at the same lodge, but it isn't open for public walk-in dining. It's excluded here since presenting it as a current dining option would be misleading.

Practical Tips

• Jackson's dining scene does skew upscale — Snake River Grill, Wild Sage, and Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse are all genuine splurge-tier options, and most require reservations booked well ahead.

• Gun Barrel, Persephone, and Pica's are the more wallet-friendly, genuinely local picks on this list.

• Cafe Genevieve no longer serves dinner — it's brunch/lunch only as of this writing, a change from what some older listings still describe.

• Snake River Grill's Sunday hours are genuinely unclear between its own site and independent listings — confirm directly if planning a Sunday visit.

Each restaurant's operating status, address, and character were checked against its own site and cross-checked against Yelp or TripAdvisor. Couloir's closure as a public restaurant was independently confirmed against local news coverage before being excluded, rather than assumed from a single source. Hours and reservation policies were checked directly against each restaurant's own site where published, and cross-referenced against at least one independent listing; where sources genuinely disagreed (Snake River Grill's Sunday hours, price tiers at Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse and Gun Barrel), we said so rather than picking one figure arbitrarily. Yelp, Tripadvisor, and OpenTable blocked direct page fetches during this research pass, so those sources were consulted via search-engine-indexed snippets rather than live pages.
