Introduction

Estes Park's dining scene ranges from a historic hotel dining room to a golf-course cafe with a real shot at spotting elk on the fairway. We checked eight restaurants below, all confirmed currently operating — a few well-known local spots turned out to have closed in recent years and are excluded here.

Bird & Jim

An upscale New American scratch-kitchen restaurant that's won multiple Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence, on the road toward Rocky Mountain National Park's Bear Lake and Moraine Park entrances.

The restaurant inside the historic Stanley Hotel, with a covered patio overlooking the hotel's namesake waterfall and a large whiskey and scotch bar.

Restaurants We Excluded

Three well-known Estes Park restaurants have closed in recent years. The Dunraven Inn, a 50-plus-year Italian institution, closed for good in March 2024 despite having relocated to a new spot just a few years earlier — a reminder that even a recent move doesn't guarantee a business is still open. Grumpy Gringo has also closed at both of its known addresses, and Fawn Brook Inn, a longtime restaurant in nearby Allenspark, closed back in

2017. None of the three should be treated as current dining options.

Practical Tips

• Bird & Jim and Cascades Restaurant & Lounge are the two strongest picks for a special-occasion dinner.
