Clinch Park Beach

Clinch Park is the city's most heavily used beach, part of a 2-plus-mile stretch of public land on West Grand Traverse Bay, with over 1,500 feet of sand directly in downtown Traverse City. It's the most amenity-rich option: picnic tables, bike racks, TART Trail access, a snack bar, restrooms, a splash pad, and lifeguards on duty from mid-June through August. Its downtown location and the municipal marina next door make it the easiest beach to reach without a car.

East Bay Beach

East Bay Beach, on East Bay Boulevard, is known specifically for shallow, warmer water — a genuine practical advantage for families with younger kids over the deeper water elsewhere. The park has grills, bathrooms, and a small playground, making it oriented toward family visits rather than a broader crowd.

West End Beach

West End Beach sits at the end of Division Street on West Bay — smaller and quieter than Clinch Park, with restrooms and a modest parking lot, and particularly noted for morning sunbathing and swimming before the day gets busy.

Practical Tips

• If you want amenities and don't mind crowds, Clinch Park is the easiest choice — walkable from downtown and connected directly to the TART Trail.

• If you're traveling with young children specifically, East Bay Beach's shallow water is a real, not marginal, advantage over the other two.

• For a quieter visit, West End Beach in the morning is the better bet over Clinch Park at midday.
