Introduction

Almost all of Traverse City's notable bars sit on or just off Front Street downtown, making it realistic to walk between several in one night. We checked all eight bars below against their own sites and current Yelp or Facebook activity — all are currently operating, and a couple needed their description sharpened from a generic "bar" tag to what they actually are.

Low Bar

Low Bar, at 128 S Union St, is a prohibition-themed speakeasy tucked in a building's basement, reached by elevator, open since 2013 and known for old fashioneds and a selection of more than 60 whiskeys.

The Parlor TC

The Parlor, at 205 Lake Ave, is a prohibition-era-styled craft cocktail bar with gastropub food, a sun deck, and live local music nightly from 8 to 11pm.

North Bar TC

North Bar, on the upper level of 160 E Front St, is specifically a rooftop cocktail bar with panoramic views over downtown and the bay, seasonal cocktails, and live rooftop music — worth knowing it's a rooftop concept rather than a generic street-level cocktail bar.

• North Bar has no official standalone website — hours rest on aggregator data only, and one source suggested Sunday hours that conflict with the closed-Sun–Wed consensus used here.

Beacon Lounge

Beacon Lounge, at 300 E State St, is a rooftop-style lounge atop the Park Place Hotel, serving cocktails and a light appetizer menu with live weekend music in an upscale, romantic atmosphere.

• Sun–Thu 5–10pm, Fri–Sat 5–11pm. *Naming note:

• the hotel's own current site refers to this space as "The Top of the Park," while Yelp, TripAdvisor, and most public listings still call it Beacon Lounge — an apparent rename that hasn't fully propagated; ask for either name at the front desk.

• *Reservations:

• Not stated as required; a listing exists on OpenTable but it's unclear if it's actively bookable.

• *Good to know:

• 21+ to enter, per the hotel's own page. 10th-floor views over Grand Traverse Bay.

The Little Fleet

The Little Fleet, at 448 E Front St, has anchored a rotating food-truck lot and patio (up to eight trucks) since 2013, alongside craft cocktails, natural wine, and live music or DJ nights; Crocodile Palace runs a Szechuan-inspired kitchen inside year-round.

• Mon–Tue 3–11pm; Wed–Thu 12–11pm; Fri–Sat 12pm–12am; Sun 12–9pm. Food truck hours run shorter than the bar itself.

• Explicitly no reservations — first-come, first-served seating.

Encore 201

Encore 201, on the upper floor above Sparks BBQ at 201 E Front St, is an upscale live-music and entertainment venue with craft cocktails, live music Thursday through Saturday, and a 21-and-over policy, open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

• No standard weekly hours — it's an events/DJ-night venue. Typically Fri–Sat, doors around 9pm, last call 1:45am; closed Sun–Thu except for special ticketed events.

• *Reservations:

• No advance reservations for general admission; a VIP booth can be rented directly (minimum $500 purchase, up to 10 guests, 20% gratuity added).

• *Good to know:

• 21+ only except select all-ages events explicitly marked as such; cover typically $5–15 depending on the act; not ADA accessible (one flight of stairs); outside food prohibited.

The Coin Slot

The Coin Slot, at 346 E Front St, is an arcade bar — pinball, skeeball, and vintage arcade games alongside more than 200 rotating canned beers and ciders, plus pizza and food trucks in the lot.

• Mon–Thu 4–11pm, Fri 3pm–12am, Sat 12pm–12am, Sun 2–10pm. An older, simpler schedule still circulates online; trust the hours above from the official site.

• Not offered; walk-in only.

• *Good to know:

• 21+ only after 9pm — younger guests are welcome during the day and early evening.

U & I Lounge

U & I Lounge, at 214 E Front St, is one of the area's oldest cocktail lounges, established in

1934. It serves Greek and American pub food — gyros, Greek salads, burgers — alongside sports-bar TVs and a daily 4–7pm happy hour.

• Mon–Sat 11am–2am, Sun 12pm–2am. *Flag:

• the official site was unreachable on repeated checks, so these hours rest on consistent third-party corroboration rather than a direct primary-source read.

• *Reservations:

• No information found; likely walk-in given the long daily hours typical of a restaurant-bar.

• *Good to know:

• Yelp categorizes it as much a Greek restaurant as a bar — go in expecting a full menu, not just drinks.

Practical Tips

• Low Bar, The Parlor, North Bar, Encore 201, The Coin Slot, and U & I Lounge are all within a few blocks of each other on or near Front Street — realistic to bar-hop between several in one evening without driving.

• The Coin Slot is the pick if you want games — pinball, skeeball, arcade — alongside drinks rather than just a bar.

• North Bar and Beacon Lounge are both rooftop-style venues with views — Beacon Lounge, atop the Park Place Hotel, leans more upscale and quiet, North Bar leans more lively.

• The Little Fleet's food-truck-lot format makes it the best pick if you want a real meal alongside drinks rather than just bar snacks.

• Beacon Lounge appears to have been quietly renamed "The Top of the Park" by the hotel itself — both names still work when asking locally or at the front desk.

• Reported price tiers for these bars sometimes cited online couldn't be independently confirmed through the sources we checked — treat them as approximate.

Sources and Verification Notes

Each bar's operating status was checked against its own website (where available), Yelp, and Facebook, with review activity confirmed into 2026 for all eight. Addresses were cross-checked via OpenStreetMap/Nominatim geocoding. Several of these bars share buildings with other tenants — North Bar's building also lists a now-closed restaurant on a different floor, and Encore 201 sits above Sparks BBQ — so where that was the case, we confirmed the specific bar itself, not just the building, was still active. North Bar and U & I Lounge have no reachable official website, so their hours rest on cross-checked third-party sources rather than a direct primary-source read.
