Introduction

Bozeman's lodging spans historic buildings converted into boutique hotels, standard chains, and a distinctive lodge outside town. We checked eight properties below — two other well-known names turned out not to be operating hotels anymore at all, exactly the kind of stale information a careful check is meant to catch.

Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman

Occupying the historic downtown Armory building, this AAA Four Diamond hotel has been described by U.S. News & World Report as Bozeman's top-ranked property. Amenities include an on-site restaurant, a rooftop bar, a basement live-music venue, and a rooftop pool.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • 3pm / 11am.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • About 10 miles, roughly 15 minutes.
  • *Good to know:
  • Valet-only parking at $45/night — there's no self-park option beyond a small loading/unloading area, though city parking garages are nearby.

The Lark

A design-forward boutique hotel built out of a converted 1950s-era motor lodge, frequently cited in travel press as a case study in Bozeman's motel-to-boutique revival, one block off Main Street.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • Check-in from 3pm, check-out by 11am.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • Roughly 11-13 miles (sources vary), about 20 minutes.
  • *Good to know:
  • Parking isn't free — $15/night self-park at the Bridger Parking Garage or $30/night valet. Pets allowed with approval, $35/night up to $70/stay.

Gallatin River Lodge

A genuinely distinctive, non-chain property: a 12-room lodge and fine-dining restaurant on a 350-acre property near the confluence of the Gallatin, Madison, and Jefferson rivers, built around a fly-fishing outfitting operation with private river access.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • No fixed clock times stated on its official site — there's no 24-hour front desk, and guests checking in after 7pm are texted an access code instead. Call ahead to coordinate arrival.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • The lodge's own site states about 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from downtown — notably closer than some third-party estimates, so we're using the property's own figures.
  • *Good to know:
  • Pets allowed at $50/dog/night (max 2 dogs), must be supervised or crated and not left alone at the lodge for full-day absences.

Element Bozeman

An extended-stay-style hotel one block off Main Street, part of the Marriott family, with an indoor pool, outdoor patio, and fitness center.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • 3pm / 12pm.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • About 10 miles, similar to Kimpton Armory given its adjacent downtown location.
  • *Good to know:
  • Self-parking is $10/day, not free. Pet policy: first dog free, second dog $100/stay. All rooms have full kitchens, standard for the Element brand.

Lewis & Clark Motel

A classic 1970s-era motor court, marking its 50th anniversary as of 2026, renovated with boutique touches — a hot tub, eucalyptus steam room, and infrared saunas — while keeping its vintage drive-up-motel character.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • Not stated on the property's own site — a commonly cited "2pm/12pm" figure traces only to a third-party booking aggregator, not the property itself, so treat it as unconfirmed and check directly when booking.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • Roughly 9-10 miles, about 15 minutes (sources vary somewhat).
  • *Good to know:
  • Parking is free and plentiful, confirmed directly on the property's own site.

RSVP Hotel

A 1950s motel reborn in 2018 as a 37-room retro-boutique property in Bozeman's Midtown corridor, with an onsite café and outdoor pool. Worth knowing it's sometimes still listed under its old name, Rainbow Motel, on outdated directories.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • Not stated on the property's own site; a "3pm/11am" figure circulating elsewhere comes from a third-party aggregator only — confirm directly if timing matters.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • About 8 miles, consistent with its Midtown position between downtown and the airport.
  • *Good to know:
  • Onsite parking, seasonal outdoor pool, and fire pits are confirmed; sources disagree on whether pets are allowed, so confirm directly with the property before booking if traveling with one.

Hampton Inn Bozeman

A standard, reliable chain option off Interstate 90, with typical Hampton amenities.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • 3pm / 11am.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • About 8 miles (a couple of secondary sources round up to 10).
  • *Good to know:
  • Free breakfast and indoor pool, standard for the brand.

Super 8 by Wyndham Bozeman

The genuine budget option, a no-frills chain motel off the interstate, dog-friendly, with light breakfast and RV parking, positioned as a base for Bridger Bowl and Yellowstone access rather than downtown walkability.

  • *Check-in/out:
  • Not stated on the official Wyndham property page — a "3pm/11am" figure seen elsewhere traces to a third-party aggregator, not confirmed directly.
  • *Distance from BZN airport:
  • About 8-8.8 miles, right off I-90 near Exit
  • *Good to know:
  • Free light breakfast, free wifi, free RV parking with outlets, dog-friendly, and about 16 miles from Bridger Bowl ski area.

Two Properties We Excluded

Hotel Baxter, the landmark downtown building, no longer offers guest rooms at all — its upper floors were converted to condominiums back in 1982, and it now houses only a restaurant and pub on the ground floor, despite several outdated listings still describing it as a hotel. Voss Inn, long listed as a bed-and-breakfast, actually closed in that role in 2018; the building now operates as a different kind of facility entirely.

Practical Tips

  • Kimpton Armory Hotel and The Lark are the two strongest downtown boutique options, but neither includes free parking — budget for valet or garage fees.

  • Gallatin River Lodge is worth the short drive out of town specifically if fly fishing is part of your trip; it doesn't run a 24-hour front desk, so coordinate your arrival time in advance.

  • Several properties (Lewis & Clark Motel, RSVP Hotel, Super 8) don't publish check-in/out times on their own sites — the figures floating around booking aggregators for these three aren't independently confirmed, so call ahead if timing matters.

  • Double-check any older source describing Hotel Baxter or Voss Inn as current lodging — both are outdated.

  • Bozeman's own airport (BZN) is technically in the neighboring town of Belgrade, about 8 miles from most downtown properties — see our travel guide's "Getting There" section for the full breakdown.

Sources and Verification Notes

Each property's operating status, address, and history were checked against its own official site and cross-checked against Yelp or TripAdvisor. Hotel Baxter's 1982 conversion to condominiums and Voss Inn's 2018 closure as a B&B were both independently verified against local news coverage before being excluded. Check-in/out times and airport distances were checked directly against each property's own site where stated; where a property didn't publish its own times and only third-party aggregators offered a figure, we flagged it as unconfirmed rather than presenting it as verified fact.
