Introduction

Petoskey's restaurant scene centers on the Gaslight District downtown, with one notable exception a short drive away. We checked each restaurant below against its own site and current Yelp or TripAdvisor listings — all seven are operating, with a few corrections worth knowing before you go.

The 1911 Restaurant at The Terrace Inn

Inside the historic Terrace Inn hotel in the Bay View resort district just north of downtown, The 1911 Restaurant serves a seasonal, locally-sourced menu known for planked whitefish and walleye, with bay-view terrace dining in season.

The restaurant describes itself as New American, though some third-party listings categorize it as Italian — worth knowing going in if you have a specific cuisine expectation.

Chandler's | Restaurant & Wine Cellar

Open since December 1999, Chandler's is tucked behind Symons General Store downtown — the "1/2" in its street address is real, marking its side-passage entrance, not a scrape error. Maple + Batter

A genuine sit-down breakfast and brunch restaurant, Maple + Batter is known for breakfast burritos, omelets, pancakes, and mimosas — popular enough that early arrival or a reservation is a good idea. One location note: its address technically places it in Bay Harbor, an unincorporated community about six miles west of downtown Petoskey, not within Petoskey city limits — though it shares Petoskey's zip code and is routinely grouped into "Petoskey area" guides like this one.

• Free public parking directly across the street plus street parking out front; live music Wednesdays 7–9pm.

City Park Grill

The building dates to 1875, making the "1870s-era" description of the structure itself accurate — but the restaurant has only operated under the City Park Grill name since

1997. Before that, the same building housed McCarty Hall, then The Annex, the Grill Cafe, and Park Garden Café across more than a century. A young Ernest Hemingway reportedly frequented the building during its Grill Cafe era. Today it serves a New American, eclectic menu.

• The official site states simply "7 days a week, 11:30am–9pm," but this conflicts with the site's own mention of Friday karaoke starting at 9:30pm — after its stated closing time — and with multiple independent sources reporting Fri–Sat hours to midnight and a Sunday closure. This is a real, unresolved conflict — call (231) 347-0101 to confirm current hours, especially for a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday visit.

Palette Bistro

Established in 2010, Palette Bistro serves a Mediterranean-inspired menu with Spanish, French, and Italian influence, stone-fired small plates, and a European wine list, across two floors plus a rooftop deck overlooking Little Traverse Bay.

• Its online booking platform URL still uses the legacy slug "andante-petoskey" from the previous restaurant in this space — Palette Bistro hasn't recently changed names, that's just an old booking-platform artifact.

Practical Tips

• Chandler's and Spring and Porter are the two most clearly upscale, reservation-worthy options on this list.

• Maple + Batter is worth the short drive to Bay Harbor if brunch is the priority, but don't expect it downtown.

• City Park Grill's building has genuine 19th-century history, even though the restaurant brand itself is closer to 30 years old — a useful distinction if you're telling the full story rather than just the headline fact.

• Chandler's, The Beacon, City Park Grill, and Palette Bistro all had some form of hours conflict turn up in research — either between the restaurant's own pages or against independent listings. Call ahead if you're building a schedule around a specific opening time.
