The Kookaburra (Downtown)

An Australian-themed cafe and coffee roaster just off St. George Street, roasting its own blends on-site and known for Aussie meat pies alongside its coffee menu.

The Bunnery Bakery & Café, a longtime St. George Street institution, has closed. It's excluded here since it no longer operates.

Practical Tips

• Café Alcazar is worth a stop specifically for its genuinely unusual Gilded Age pool-house setting, not just the food — and it's the one cafe here where booking ahead genuinely matters.

• The Spanish Bakery & Café's empanadas and outdoor-only seating make it a distinctive stop rather than a generic bakery, but its hours are genuinely unclear across sources — call ahead.
